Criteria to become an Educator

  • Minimum of Certificate 3 in Children’s Services (or actively working towards) Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • Provide an emergency first aid response in an education or care setting ( Course Code HLTAID012)
  • CPR Certificate (HLTAID009)
  • National Criminal History Check – Not more than 6 months old
  • PRODA Registration Authority (RA) number
  • A suitable safe home environment and the desire to operate a successful small business
  • Valid ‘employee’ Working With Children Check
  • Valid ‘volunteer’ Working With Children Check for all adult household members 18yrs and over
  • Public Liability Insurance
  • Medical Examination required to start working as an Educator
  • Landlord permission to use rental premises (if applicable)

Family Day Care educators are registered with an approved provider. Twinkle Family Day Care Pty Ltd is a registered approved provider with early years education and care. See the criteria above 

 

* There may be some costs associated with making your home safe such as fencing, barriers for stairs, mandatory glass audit and storage
* Costs associated with obtaining First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis certificates, Child Protection certificate, Food handling, Save little lives certificates.
* Insurance costs
* Costs associated with purchasing equipment for the children such as cots, toys, car seats, plastic cabinet locks, electric outlet covers and educational equipment.

As a Family Day Care educator you are running your own business with the ABN number and you set your own fees (From the Twinkle fees schedule). The coordination unit has guidelines to assist you with this process.
Many families are eligible for Child care subsidy. This is administered by the coordination unit and passed on to educators with families paying the difference of the full fee.
